Freshers' party at NYK's

FRESHERS' PARTY @ NYK's

The JSSATE freshers party 2009 was held at NYK's elite club on 11 October. I got to know about it just 2 days before the scheduled date. I wanted to go there for various unmentionable reasons. In fact no one believed that I would really go. My friend, finally gave me a party pass.

Nyk's club is in Residency road, very close to St. Joseph's college. The club is on the fourth floor.

Most of the night clubs are known to maintain a 50:50 boys to girls ratio. But that day might have been an exception.

I saw a crowd of boys on the ground floor. They were submitting their passes and in return getting a "Nyk's" seal on their hands. All the stags were made to feel they were one. They had to take the stairs to get into the club which happens to be on the fourth floor.

On the other hand, Girls or couples were given immediate attention. They were served first and were even allowed to access the Elevator.

On the fourth floor, to my right I saw a clean lounge, to my left there was again a crowd which kept the bartender busy. I saw bottles of different sizes, glasses of various shapes, colored liquors...which I had previously seen only in movies.

Most of the boys were armed with cigarettes between their lips. The girls were dressed in acceptable fabric. Every edge of the terrace had some sort of seating arrangement. It was open air and spacious. Beer was served in cheap plastic glasses. I think I was the only stag there who didn't drink or smoke. Finally I settled in with a Pepsi.

It was surprising to notice that there were very few freshers and seniors in majority on this freshers' party.

The disco was enclosed unlike other areas. They have a wooden dance floor. The DJ played good music. I enjoyed watching others enjoy. I thought I should have taken a camera there. Later I even asked my friends to mail me some party pictures. They sent me none. Finally I thought of generating pictures myself.

Below are a few pictures. These are computer generated images portraying the scene at the JSSATE Freshers' party at NYK's club.

The 7th Jar of Gold

The 7th Jar of Gold

["Here is a writing which is surely going to motivate you and make you think good. This piece of text is worth every bit, make sure you read it".]

There lived a carpenter in a small town. He was once returning home and had to cross a forest. He was midway and he heard a voice from nowhere. It was a tree that was speaking.

Tree: O poor man, would you care to stop by and like to possess seven jars of gold?

Carpenter: I… err… sure, thank you for showing pity on a poor man like me! How I wish I have seven jars of gold with me.

Tree: So shall it be. Now go home. You will see your wish come true.

The carpenter went home anxiously and there really were seven jars of gold as told by the tree. The poor man was overwhelmed by this little magic that took place in his life. He thought that all his difficulties and misery would come to an end.

He checked all the jars one by one. All of them were filled with gold except the seventh jar which was only half filled.

A series of thoughts ran into his mind. He wanted the seventh jar to be as full as others.

And from that day, there was only one passion – to fill the seventh jar of gold. He worked harder and longer, he ate less, avoided celebrations, stopped buying new clothes and cut down on whatever possible. He saved money and filled the seventh jar with gold. Yet, the jar was not full.

He sold some of his belongings, begged his employer to increase his pay, he denied himself of every pleasure in order to save. Yet the jar was not full. No matter what the poor man did, the magic jar refused to be filled up completely- It remained, as before, partly empty.

This is what is happening to most of us. We dwell so much on little negative things happening in our life that we overlook the abundance of positivity. We deny ourselves the beauty of life just because of some small stupid problem.

There is also a saying which goes something like:

When one door of happiness closes; another opens. But often, we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us

Computer Science Farewell party - JSSATE

Great fun @ CSE Farewell!!!!!!!!!!

The farewell party for computer science and engineering students of JSSATE-Bangalore was held on 19 may 09. It was a huge gathering. I had been there with my friend Sumanth. As I came early, I even got to watch the rehearsals. Someone had got a beautiful guitar for the fashion show.

By noon, all the staff members and our beloved HOD, Dr. KAMALESH, had arrived. Firstly, there was a lamp lighting ceremony which was followed by an invocation song. By this time most of the 8th sem guys and gals of JSSATE had arrived. The entertaintment began with a group song, then there was a solo dance after which there were a few petty performances.

This farewell party was called as "SAVI NENAPU".

Dr.Kamalesh was asked to give a small advice to the outgoing batch. His speech was pretty different. He did it in style. His advice went something like this:
(He came on stage with a smile on his face)
(He put his left hand into his trouser's left pocket)

I hope that you people will do well...
I remember the last speech given by Murthy sir last time my students were goin out...
When I thought about my students surviving in the market, they are doing better than anybody else...(applause)
So whatever we advice; I dont think it's going to do much...
You people are much better...we lived in a different world and you live in a different world...(applause)
What you think counts a lot; not what we want to tell...
So in future dont take anybody's advice...

(Huge applause)

After that there was a dance performance during which all our seniors came on stage and started dancing. This was one of the most memorable moments of the party. They danced very well. Our senior called Svarup stole the show with his crazy choreography. We had Abhay - the rapper. He looked real cool. I think he had styled himself like Eminem. He rapped rapturously. He sportively took part in the paper dance contest. He also lifted his heavy partner. Unfortuately he couldn't make it. We also heard one of his Original Song compositions.(Too good).
I was totally enjoying this CSE farewell party.
I managed to take a picture of our seniors during the tea break. The picture didn't come out very well. I was using a 2mp moble camera!

In the end there was a 30 minute video showing how our outgoing batch had had a great time during their 4 years at JSSATE-Bangalore.

JSSATE Verve' 09 day 2

.
.
It was a Saturday. I heard the phone ring. I said "hello" half asleep.
It was Rohit on the other line," Tejus, where r u ? C- programming contest is about to begin in 10 minutess, come to SF-19".
Then I ...

I had my bath, skipped breakfast and rushed to my college- JSSATE(which is just 3 Km from my house). I Ran to SF-19. Thank god! They had just begun to give question papers. We tried to figure out the correct option using all the C- skills a II semester student could possibly have.
There were 30 questions. We were sure of getting at least 15 right. After 1 hr we came back to check the qualifiers list only to see that we were not on the list.( 28 was the highest and 18 was the cut off).

Then I played NFS Most wanted. No luck there too.

Debate was too cool. It was happening in the seminar hall. I went there . It was really cool!!!. The ACs were turned on.

After being there at rock show for more than an hour I returned home.
I thought I will go back to college at 7:00 pm for the fashion show but I chose to stay home watching the movie 'FASHION'.

JSSATE Verve' 09 day 1

"There are only 10 kinds of people. one who understand binary and others who don't."

-Anonymous

It was a Friday. I posted the event list of verve' 09 on my blog and started towards the college. the main stage was looking absolutely pumping. Verve' 09 started of with Mr/ms. JSS.
I had never expected but all 14 finalists, 7 boys and 7 girls were on stage in a totally different avatar.

These are a few avatars worth noticing:
1. Sam was wearing his shirt, trousers and waist coat front side back (or backside front).
2. A girl wearing a football jersey.

(They were actually told to come in an attire that made them feel the most uncomfortable. This explains about their weird look)

After a few rounds of elimination, the result was announced.

Mr. JSS 2009: Sheldon
Ms. JSS 2009: Ramya

There were whole lot of amazing events being conducted in seminar halls and other class rooms. I went into the seminar hall where the short movie making contest was being contested. It was a real surprise for me to note the fabulous amount of quality, dedication and hard work that was put in to make those movies.(Real inspiration I must say!!!)
Mad ads are a huge hit as always.
Later solo dance and group dance was done on main stage.

How I got into JSSATE, BANGALORE

After finishing my PUC and CET exams, I got plenty of time to make a detailed analysis of all the colleges. I did a lot of research to deduce which engineering college I probably may get a chance to enter.

Once the answer keys were published, I evaluated my marks. I got it as 111 out of 180. I was expecting my CET rank to be some where around 4500.
CET results were out in a few weeks. My rank was 4423!
A very bad rank for a GM student like me to have. How I wished to be a SC or ST.(even 2a,2b...3a,3b...would do).

I love computer science and I wanted to choose CS. But if I wanted CS I would never have got a chance to get into top 5 colleges in Bangalore. CET first round was approaching, I decided not to bother about the course but to bother only about the college. I got civil engineering in BMSCE!!!. This was a great selection. I would proudly tell my friends that I had got BMSCE. My friends were not so surprised once I told them that my course was civil.

Now again there was lot of time for the final seat selection round. I totally decided that I have to select computer science. JSSATE was a very good option. Infact JSSATE is too close to my house. Unfortunately the cut off trend was something like 3500. I badly wanted to get into JSSATE. JSSATE was the best option.

Finally the 'final seat selection round' day arrived. JSSATE was my first choice followed by Dr. AIT and other colleges.
Initially there were 12 CS seats under JSSATE. Gradually it decreased to 5. It turned 3 after a few minutes. I was almost there. The countdown was at rank 4410. I could still see that 3 seats were remaining. The countdown came to 4419. 4 more to go and 3 seats remaining. Suddenly the no. of seats changed to 2. My heart began to pump faster. I heard someone calling "rank no. 4423", I quickly went to the counter desk. The seat availibility display was no longer visible to me. I was wondering what if the 2 seats had already be taken. I could even here some girl asking for-'JSSATE computer science'.

Finally It was my turn. I was quite unsure. But I asked them for-'JSSATE computer science'. This man at the counter cooly checked his monitor and replied-"YES".

I was thrilled. I was excited. I couldn't believe myself. I felt blessed !!!
I completed all other procedures and came back home happily with my ADMISSION TICKET TO JSSATE-BANGALORE.

There was one thing that still surprised me. How could a 4423 rank guy get a seat when the cut off trend was something like 3500? I was lucky. This year the intake for CS and IS has been increased from 60 to 90.( what a coincidence!!!)

JSSATE VERVE' 09 IS HERE

VERVE' 09 is here. It is on 8th and 9th of May 2009. VERVE as I have heard is supposed to be the best 'Inter collegiate techno cultural fest' in Bangalore after BMSCE's UTSAV.

Here is the list of all the events taking place:

SPORTS: mini soccer, mini cricket
LIT O MANIA: brain storm, non stop nonsense, puzzlers, director's cut, vantage point
TECHNO TALISMA: C programming and debugging, cryptography, fight it out, omni tracker
INSANE SENSES: tear n tape, dumb n dumber, bizzaro world, installion
EXTRA VAGANCE: style quotient, head bangers, dance floor, actors' paradise
BIKER BOYS: zero rpm, check point
OFF BEAT: arm wrestling, sack fighting, face painting, on spot painting, poster making
SALSA WORKSHOP

All those impressive event banner stuck up all over the college have been designed by our very own III year guys. This time a special website for verve is being designed by a II year guy.
Once the website is published I will surely post the website's URL.

Any more details regarding JSSATE VERVE can be had from:

VARUN TM @ 9880144421
MALA @ 9986570087
SUHAS KV @ 9964584275;

Check out the video bar. I made those cool videos specially for VERVE' 09. It took about 2 weeks for bringing out the final version of it. My seniors encouraged me a lot and contributed some marvelous videos and eye catching pics of VERVE' 08. I integrated them along with the fantastically done event posters in a video processor called 'Corel Video Studio'. For the background music I had Timbaland's 'the way i are'. This stupid thing got muted once I uploaded to you tube saying that it is copyright protected. Then I got a cool track called 'Ambience outburst' from my favorite 'FL Studio'. Surprisingly it synchronised with the video gloriously.
